Reject False Political Rhetoric - And Response

  • Friday, July 15, 2016

Here go the Democrats again in spreading outright lies and mis-truths in an attempt to steal an election.  This time, they have their sights aimed at Marty Haynes and the Assessor of Property office.

This morning, there was a TV commercial from the Democrats that is completely wrong and lies about county government and our county taxes.

Where is the proof that county government has increased our property taxes?  The facts on this question are clear. County taxes have not been raised since 2007, one full year before the senior tax freeze was even possible.  This is fact and undeniable.  Any other increase in county revenue is due to new home construction and new businesses moving to the area -- not a county property tax increase.

Don't believe the lies coming from someone who just moved here to run for political office and has only voted once -- March 2016.

I have known Marty personally for over 15 years and I know we can trust him in managing the Assessor's Office the right way and according to state laws.

We need to reject this kind of political rhetoric.  Please go vote for Marty Haynes as our next Assessor of Property.

It makes me angry when politicians tell lies to influence votes. The Obama Democrats have used these methods for years to control the votes of some segments of the public. These same dirty politics are now being used in Hamilton County in a TV commercial directed at Marty Haynes.

The fact is Hamilton County government has not raised property taxes since 2007. In 2007 the tax rate was $3.15 and today it is $2.76. By my math that is actually over a 12 percent decrease. Here are some reasons why the tax rate has actually declined. Unemployment in Hamilton County is 3.8 percent which is below the State average and well below the 4.7 percent national average for the same period. The population growth in Hamilton County from 2010 to 2014 increased at 4.4 percent. In a one year period residential building permits rose in 2014 to 2015 by 25 percent with $367 million of new residential construction in progress. Growth in jobs, growth in wages and growth in population are the reasons why Hamilton County has continued to prosper and tax property tax rates have remained steady.

I applaud our Hamilton County leaders, Mayor Coppinger, Chairman Bankston and the members of our County Commission who have demonstrated conservative values yet continued to foster a climate conducive to growth. We are one of the few Counties in the Nation and the only County in Tennessee to have a AAA bond rating. Our spending has been kept in check and yet we have added a new $50 million plus new school every year to areas where significant growth has been demonstrated.

On the other hand however, citizens who reside in the city of Chattanooga have actually seen significant increases in property taxes during the same period of time. Perhaps the Democrats are confused or just mislead by these same folks who are spreading the lies and control our Liberal City Government. A resident who lives in the city of Chattanooga during the same period is now paying more than double in property taxes plus storm water fees and other fees on their water compared to those who live in thecCounty. For what I might ask, bike lanes and garbage service. Is this the type of liberal government citizens want to see expanded to our County government?

Please join me in voting for Marty Haynes for our next Assessor of Property. Marty is a proven common sense conservative on the County Commission and will do the same in the office of Assessor of Property.
