A wreck Saturday morning in Dalton sent one person to the hospital, and shut down West Walnut Avenue.
A black Chevy Tahoe was traveling eastbound on Walnut Avenue when it left the roadway, and then re-entered the roadway and crossed a concrete median and crossed into westbound lanes before again leaving the roadway on the westbound side of the road and hit several trees and a power pole before coming to rest. The driver was transported to Hamilton Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
West Walnut Avenue is closed between Dug Gap Road/Tibbs Road and Morton Drive due to the crash. The public is urged to avoid the area if possible.
Dalton Police Department officers are on scene directing drivers around a detour.
The downed pole has caused a power outage that stretches between Market Street and Bryman's Plaza North. Dalton Utilities is on the scene and is working on the problem and estimates clearance in approximately two to three hours.
