  • Monday, July 18, 2016

Headline band Nora Jane Struthers and Party Line will bring their live show to Nightfall this week, preceded by local acoustic music by the Earl Brackin Band Friday at 7 p.m. Nightfall is the 15-week free concert series produced by Chattanooga Presents at Miller Plaza.

Nightfall 2016 represents a series of 15 free Friday-night concerts held at Miller Plaza in downtown Chattanooga. Each Friday through August 26, Nightfall will showcase a broad spectrum of musical genres featuring a Chattanooga band at 7 p.m., followed by a headline show by a superior national artist at 8 p.m., many of whom are performing for the first time in Chattanooga.

Nightfall bulk discount beer and wine tickets are available at each show, offering a 20% savings on a packet of 20 drink tickets (typically $6 per individual ticket, but sold in a bulk packet for $96).  Food trucks and non-alcoholic drink concessions are also available on site. No outside food or beverages are allowed to be brought in to Nightfall.

For more information on the free community concert series, call 423-265-0771 or visit NightfallChattanooga.com for a complete, interactive website that includes music samples by each headliner, as well as other information for first-time attendees.

Review on Nora Jane Struthers

A Jersey girl raised on roots music, who is now making rock records in Nashville, Ms. Struthers is impossible to pin down. Her amalgamation of sounds is supported in the studio and on the road by Josh Vana on guitar; Joe Overton on banjo, fiddle and pedal steel; Brian Duncan Miller on bass; and Drew Lawhorn on drums. For fans and critics alike,  Ms. Struthers’ emotionally honest writing style and storytelling ability set her apart from her peers.

Along her musical career path, Ms. Struthers has worked with bluegrass stars like Tim O’Brien, Stuart Duncan and Bryan Sutton, and released two critically acclaimed albums. But it was in 2012, when Ms. Struthers formed the Party Line, that everything started to come into sharper focus. She says, “With the Party Line, I found people I want to be with. The instruments they play are what my band became. I was playing more acoustic style music, then I found a great electric guitar player who I love hanging out with and who’s committed to my music. What I love about our instrumentation is the balance between roots and rock ‘n’ roll.” Riding a wave of positive reviews from Rolling Stone, NPR’s “The Record” and “Fresh Air” following the 2015 release of the band’s album “Wake,” this tour celebrates the region that Nora Jane Struthers calls home.

Review of  Earl Brackin Band

Earl grew up in a household of musicians. His dad was a band director and his mother a violinist/pianist. As a teen he learned guitar as a way of accompanying his singing. James Taylor and Gordon Lightfoot became big influences on his style of writing, and his pursuit of music led to two degrees in music from Auburn University. As a writer, he draws from these varied musical influences, which are reflected in his folk, bluegrass, and blues styles.
