Frances Yvonne McCormack Wimpee Cannon, 78, of Calhoun, Tennessee, died on Sunday, July 17, 2016.
She was born Dec. 25, 1937 in Selmer, TN to the late Thomas and Louise McCormack; and was also preceded in death by her brother, William Thomas McCormack; and husbands, Sam Cannon and James G Wimpee, father of her children.
She co-owned and operated Wimpee’s Restaurant in Calhoun, then after obtaining a teacher’s degree from Cleveland State Community College and Lee College, she taught at Head Start in Charleston Tennessee, later became the Director of T.O.P.S., Inc Migrant Head Start Program, she was Secretary - Treasure of Cannon Construction Inc and owner of Femme Environmental Associates, Inc. After retirement, she served on the Cleveland Municipal Planning Commission.
She loved to read, tend to her flowers, and she was an avid Tennessee Volunteer football and Lady Vols basketball and softball fan; she rarely missed a game.
Survivors include her five children, Cheryl Yvonne Montgomery and companion Jeffry Skidmore, James Ragan Wimpee of Cleveland, Michelle Diane White and husband Mike of Riceville Tennessee, Lisa Lynn Stampee, Teena Louise Wimpee and companion Rick Owens of Cleveland; brother, Michael “Moe” McCormack and wife Vivian of Cleveland; sister, Sandra Whitten and husband Wayne of Selmer, TN; 11 grandchildren, Daniel Montgomery, Christopher (Kristy) Montgomery, Stephanie Bolton (Josh) Sorrell, Caleb (Heather) Bolton, Madison Scott, Britany (Josh) Cantrell, Jake White, Dustin (Jackie) Wimpee, David (Prissy) Stampee, Nathan (Tonyia) Wimpee and Aaron Wimpee; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Ceremony will be held on Tuesday, July 19, at 7 p.m. at the Charleston Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The interment will be held on Wednesday in Selmer, TN.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the church prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Charleston Cumberland Presbyterian Church in her name. The church address is PO Box 476, Charleston, TN 37310.
