In a game with two lead changes and three tie scores, Fairview defeated Signal Mountain, 12-11, in 7 innings to win the Tennessee Dixie Youth Baseball state tournament Tuesday in Rockwood.

Signal Mountain trailed 3-2 before taking an 8-3 lead through four innings Fairview tied the game at 8-8 and then led 10-8 going into the bottom of the sixth.

Signal then scored twice and had the winning run on third base with no outs, but could not score.

Fairview then scored twice in the top of the seventh, only to have Signal score once in the bottom of the seventh and had bases loaded with one out. But Fairview was able to make two infield outs to end the threat, win the state title and make plans to travel to Laurel, Miss. for the 9-10s (AA) World Series beginning Aug. . Fairview will play the Georgia state champion on the opening day.

SM was led offensively by Blake Wolfard (3 singles,1 RBI), Jake Edmondson (4 singles), Luke Bell (2 doubles, 1 RBI) and David Baker (single, triple, 3 RBIs) who also pitched the entire game.

Defensive standouts include Jack Murdock in left with two catches, Ty Harper at first, Jake Edmondson at shortstop, Blake Wolfard at third base and Preston Kincer behind the plate.

Signal Mountain was 4-2 in the tournament with wins against host Rockwood, Parkwood, Kingston and Springfield and lost twice to Fairview.

Signal Mountain 12, Springfield 11 – Consolation Finals

The victors put on their rally caps and scores six runs with two outs in the bottom of the sixth to defeat Springfield, 12-11, in the consolation finals Monday.

Sixth Inning: Trailing 11-6, Barrett Anderson walked and Preston Kincer went in as pinch runner. Thad Whitfield struck out (one out). Jack Murdock had a left field double to score Kincer (11-7). Luke Bell struck out for the second out.

Edwin Pratt had a left field double to score Murdock (11-8). Yuji Steele went in as pinch runner. Jake Edmondson walked. Blake Wolfard hit a double to left center that scored Steele and Edmondson to pull within one at 11-10.

Ty Harper walked and David Baker had a double to right field to score Wolfard and Ty Harper with the tying and winning runs to set off a wild celebration and date in the finals.
