Weekly Roadway Activity Report for TDOT Region 2 (Parts of East and Middle Tennessee)

Construction Projects
Maintenance / Regionwide / On-Call / Multi-County Contracts

Bledsoe County, SR-30 slide repair project near log mile 7.5:  Work on this project continues.

 The contract includes excavating, stabilizing and rebuilding the road at the site of a recent slope failure.  Due to the magnitude of the project, the contractor has closed SR-30 to all traffic at the project site.  The closure will be in effect through July 31, 2016 to allow the contractor enough room to make the necessary repairs to the road.  Detours will be posted during the closure of SR-30.  On August 1, 2016, the road will be opened to one lane under the control of a temporary traffic signal.  The road will remain in this configuration through the month of August, after which it will be reopened to two lanes.  The estimated completion date for the entire project is August 2016.  [Dement Construction Co., LLC/Voiles/CNQ219]

Bradley and McMinn counties, I-75 resurfacing from north of Hooper Gap Road overhead bridges in Bradley County (MM 31) to south of the bridge over County Road 50 in McMinn County (MM 39):  Work on this project continues.  During this report period, there will be temporary lane closures on I-75 North and South so the contractor can install permanent pavement markings on the project.  Temporary lane closures for paving operations will only be allowed from Sunday through Thursday evenings between 7PM and 6AM.  One lane will remain open at all times during the work.  Temporary lane closures for bridge work will be allowed on weekends from 7PM Friday until 6AM Monday.  The contractor will be allowed eight weekends to complete the bridge repairs.  No lane closures will be allowed on holiday weekends or during local festivals or events.  THP will assist with traffic control on the project as necessary.  Estimated project completion is August 2016.  [Rogers Group, Inc./Curtis/CNP278]

Bradley County, I-75 grading, drainage, construction of retaining walls and paving at Exit 25 (State Route 60) interchange in Cleveland, including the installation of traffic signals:  Work on this project continuesDuring this report period, there will be intermittent lane closures as the contractor works on the soil nail retaining wall.  Estimated project completion is summer 2016.  [Steve Williams Construction, LLC./Curtis/CNN323]

Bradley County, U.S. 74 (SR-311, APD-40) construction of a new interchange between I-75 (Exit 20) and U.S. 11/64 (SR-2) at Stone Lake Extension in Cleveland:  Work on this project continues.  Traffic has been shifted onto the right shoulder on APD-40.  The speed limit on SR-311 in the construction zone has been lowered to 45 MPH.  Traffic needs to be aware of trucks entering and exiting on the southbound lanes of APD-40.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion date is October 2016.  [Talley Construction Co., Inc./Curtis/CNN307]

Bradley County, U.S. 74 (SR-311, APD-40) installation of traffic signals on APD-40 at King Street in Cleveland (LM 4.54), including grading, drainage and paving:  Work on this project continues.  Until August 9, 2016, the contractor will close the left turn lanes in each direction on APD-40 at King Street between 7AM and 5PM on weekdays.  Estimated project completion is December 2016.  [Stansell Electric Company, Inc./Curtis/ CNQ130]

Bradley County, 20th Street NE installation of traffic signals at the SR-60 northbound ramps (LM 0.10):  This project is under contract and work will be beginning soon.  Estimated project completion date is December 2016.  [Stansell Electric Company, Inc./Curtis/ CNQ130]

Cannon County, SR-145 (Auburntown Rd.) bridge repair over Rush Creek (LM 1.43):  Work on this project continues.  The contractor closed the bridge to traffic on Wednesday, June 8, 2016, and it is expected to reopen by June 29, 2016.  Message boards are in place to give information on detours throughout the closure.  Motorists should use caution and be alert to construction equipment and vehicles within the work zone.  Estimated project completion date is July 2016.  [Jones Brothers Construction, LLC/Parnham/CNQ046]

Coffee County, I-24 grading, drainage, retaining/barrier walls and paving with Portland Cement concrete at the SR-55 interchange near MM 111:  Work on this project continues.  The outside shoulder on I-24 East will be closed on Monday through Saturday between the hours of 6AM and 6PM.  SR-55 in the area of the project will also be reduced from two lanes to one lane every day.  Estimated project completion date is July 2016.  [Civil Constructors, LLC./Parnham/CNP265]

Coffee County, grading, drainage and paving on a State Industrial Access route serving Omar, Inc. at the Joint Industrial Park:  This project has been inspected and completed and is awaiting a Notice of Termination.  Estimated project completion date is July 2016.  [Rogers Group, Inc./Parnham/CNP262]

Coffee, Grundy and Marion counties, I-24 expansion of rural TDOT SmartWay Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) from MM 109 to MM 157:  Work on this project continues.  There will be no lane or shoulder closures during this report period.  There may be daytime or nighttime shoulder and short term lane closures throughout the project area as the contractor performs work for future traffic cameras and dynamic message signs.  Estimated completion date is July 2016.  [Stansell Electric Company, Inc./Parnham/CNN205]

Cumberland County, I-40 cold planing/resurfacing (mm 317.87 to mm 322.38) including Obed River Bridge repair (LM 13.54) and installation of traffic count station loops:  Work on this project is complete and final inspection has been performed.  Estimated project completion date is August 2016.  [Rogers Group, Inc./Bradley/CNP299]

Cumberland County, SR-101 (Peavine Road) utility relocation from Firetower Road to east of Westchester Drive/Catoosa Boulevard:  Work on this project continues.  The first phases of work for this project will involve erosion control and clearing activities which will have only minor impact to traffic on SR-101 (Peavine Road).  Estimated project completion date is June 2017.  [Davis H. Cumberland County, SR-392 resurfacing from SR 28 (LM 2.78) to US 70 (LM 5.28):  Work on this project has begun.  Construction signs have been installed.  The contractor will be cold planing the existing roadway and performing resurfacing activities.  Short term lane closures will be established with flaggers and other traffic control devices as necessaryEstimated project completion date is September 2016.  [Rogers Group, Inc./Bradley/CNQ111]

DeKalb County, SR-26 (U.S. 70) construction of a welded steel plate girder bridge and three retaining walls over the Caney Fork River and Sligo Road (LM 24.58):  This project is complete pending final inspection.  Estimated project completion date is July 2016.  [Massman Construction Co./Sorrelle/CNM073]

DeKalb County, SR-141 slide repair between log mile 0.93 and log mile 1.10, including grading, drainage and paving:  This project is substantially complete and awaiting final inspection.  Estimated project completion date is July 2016.  [Jones Brothers, Inc./Sorrelle/CNP006]

District 27 (Cumberland, Fentress, Overton, Pickett, Putnam, and White counties) crack sealing on various state routes:  Work on this project is underway.  Short term lane closures will be established with flaggers and other traffic control devices as necessary during crack sealing operations.  Estimated project completion date is July 2016.  [American Stripers, LLC/Bradley/CNQ067]

FENTRESS COUNTY, SIA route serving Clarkrange Regional Business Park:  A Notice of Termination has been obtained for this project and final inspection has been performed with punchlist issued.  Traffic will not be affected at this time.  Estimated project completion is July 2016.  [Twin K Construction,/Bradley/CNP228]

Franklin county, U.S. 41A (SR-16) bridge repair over Boiling Fork Creek at log mile 12.73 (near downtown square, Winchester):  Work on this project continues.  The bridge is reduced from two lanes in each direction to one lane in each direction to allow the contractor an area in which to safely work.  Traffic will be affected on U.S. 41A (SR-16) between Porter Street and Sharp Springs Road.  Estimated project completion date is October 2016 [Mid-State Construction Co., Inc./Parnham/CNP311]

Franklin County, SR-50 grading, drainage, and paving from SR-50 to U.S. 64 (SR-15) in Winchester:  Work on this project continues.  The ramps leading from SR-16 to U.S. 64 (SR-15) at the four-way stop are closed to aid in the construction of the roundabout.  The construction of concrete islands and curbs for the roundabout at the intersection of State Route 50 and State Route 16 are currently underway.  In the meantime, traffic has be diverted onto SR-16 and then onto U.S.64, making for a detour of approximately ¼ mile in length.  Traffic has also been diverted onto the new tie-in to Joyce Lane.  Grading activities are ongoing from Wilton Circle to State Route 50.  In the coming month construction activities for the retaining walls, one in front of the National Guard Armory and one in front of the Justice Center, will commence.   Estimated project completion date is April 2017.  [Dement Construction Co., LLC./Parnham/CNP097]

Grundy and Putnam counties, longitudinal joint stabilization on various interstate routes:  Beginning on May 22, 2016 the contractor will be performing joint stabilization on I 24 in Grundy County from MM 131.56 – MM 134.27.  They will then move to I40 in Putnam County from MM 281.32 – MM 286.92.  The work will be done between 6PM – 6AM.  This will be a mobile operation.  THP will assist with traffic control.  Estimated project completion date is July 2016.  [Pavement Technology, Inc./Voiles/CNP281]

HAMILTON COUNTY, U.S. 27 (I-124) widening from I-24/U.S. 27 interchange to north of the Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River, including widening the Olgiati Bridge:  Work on this project continues.  The speed limit on U.S. 27 in the construction zone has been lowered to 45 MPH.  The contractor may have temporary lane closures on U.S. 27 between 7PM-6AM. As the project progresses, there may be short term temporary lane closures for the safety of the traveling public on city streets within the project area.  Flaggers will assist with these closures and they will be properly signed in accordance with the Federal Highway Administration’s Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. During Phase 1 of the U.S. 27 project, the contractor will be working on the northbound side of U.S. 27 on the bridges.  Work will consist of demolishing and reconstructing the outside sections of the bridges along U.S. 27 North.  Also on U.S. 27 South, they will be constructing a large retaining wall between the Olgiati Bridge and 6th Street.  At least one lane will remain open in each direction on U.S. 27.  THP will assist with traffic control on the project as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is July 2019.  For more info, visit the project website http://www.tn.gov/tdot/topic/US27-reconstruction-chattanooga.  [Dement Construction Co., LLC/JM/CNP230]

Hamilton County, SR 317 (Apison Pike) the grading, drainage and paving on from Old Lee Highway (LM 5.58) to SR-321 (Ooltewah-Ringgold Road) (LM 7.84):  Work on this project continues.  During this report period the contractor may have intermittent lane closures from 9AM to 4PM.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion date is May 2017. Hamilton County, SR-320 (East Brainerd Rd.) grading, drainage, installation of signals, construction of seven retaining walls and paving from east of Graysville Road to east of Bel-Air Road:  Work on this project continuesDuring this report period, the contractor will have intermittent lane closures between 9AM-2PM.  This work may affect either direction of East Brainerd Road or side streets from Graysville Road to Hamlett Drive as the contractor installs road crossings and borings.  The contractor may have short-term lane closures to perform various operations on an as-needed basis. Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion is June 2017.  [Mountain State Contractors, LLC /Pruett/CNN383]

Hamilton County, Shepherd Road over SR-153 construction of a rolled steel girder bridge from West Shepherd Rd. to Shaw Avenue in Chattanooga, including grading, drainage and paving:  Work on this project continues.  The bridge has returned to two lanes of traffic.  On weekdays during this report period, the contractor will be doing asphalt paving on the Airport Connector Road west of the Shepherd Road Bridge and at the ramp intersections.  The work will take place during daytime hours and traffic will be maintained through the work zone with flaggers and lane shifts.  This paving will allow the contractor to shift traffic onto the concrete ramp pavement in the coming weeks so that they can construct phase 2 of the ramps.  Please anticipate short delays and use extra caution though the work zone.  Estimated project completion is October 2016.  [Jones Brothers Contractors, Inc./Micka/CNP105]

McMinn County, SR-39 construction of a concrete box beam bridge over Chestuee Creek (LM 15.68), including grading, drainage and paving:  Work on this project continues.  Traffic has been restored to two lanes on the bridge.  The project is complete pending completion of the punchlist items.  Estimated project completion is July 2016.  [Simpson Construction Co., Inc./Curtis/CNP011]

McMinn County, SR-163 construction of a State Industrial Access road serving Resolute Forest Products in Calhoun, including grading, drainage and paving:  Work on this project continues.  There will be flaggers on SR-163 as the contractor works to install barrier rails and to shift traffic.  Also the contractor will be clearing the roadway.  Estimated project completion is July 2016.  [Greenstar LLC/Curtis/CNP309]

Meigs County, SR-58 bridge repair over Big Sewee Creek (LM 22.84):  Work on this project has begun.  The bridge is reduced to one lane and controlled with a temporary traffic signal until further notice.  Estimated project completion is May 2017.  [Wilson Construction Group LLC/Micka/CNQ126]

Overton County, SR-52 grading, drainage, signals and paving from near Oakley-Allons Road (LM 6.58) to DR-111 (LM 10.23):  Work on this project continues.  The contractor may have short term lane closures on the project to perform various operations on as-needed basis.  Estimated project completion date is July 2018.  [J&M Grading Division, LLC/Ray/CNP114]

Polk County, U.S. 64 (SR-40) construction of a concrete bulb-tee beam bridge over Maddens Branch (LM 11.06), including grading, drainage and paving:  Work on this project continues.  The temporary traffic signal has been removed from the project and traffic has been restored to two lanes.  Traffic has been shifted onto the new bridge at Maddens Branch to start on the second phase of the new Maddens Branch Bridge.  The travel lanes across the phase 1 Maddens Branch Bridge are 10 feet wide.  Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution in this area because of the narrow lanes.  Estimated project completion is October 2016.  [Simpson Construction Co., Inc./Curtis/CNP016]

Polk County, U.S. 64 (SR-40) construction of a concrete bulb-tee beam bridge over Branch and TOHA Old Line railroad (LM 24.85), including grading, drainage and paving:  Work on this project continues.  The contractor will be clearing and there will be occasional temporary lane closures.  The traveling public is advised to be cautious around flaggers and construction workers in the construction zone.  [Talley Construction Co., Inc./Curtis/CNQ900]

Polk County, SR-68 resurfacing (microsurfacing) from the CSXT railroad crossing (LM 13.91) to east of Main Street (LM 21.61):  Work on this project continues.  During this report period, the contractor will be replacing guardrail throughout the project limits.  Once that is complete, resurfacing activities will begin.  There may be short-term, temporary lane closures throughout the project area as the contractor works.  [Hudson Construction Company/ Curtis/ CNQ036]

Putnam County, I-40 grading, drainage, construction of two concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridges, signals and paving at Mine Lick Creek Road (MM 283/LM 15.56) and construction of a State Industrial Access Road (Mine Lick Creek Road) serving Project Victor, including grading, drainage and paving:  Work on this project continues.  The contractor continues with grading operations on the north section of the project that includes Bennett Road, Hawkins Crawford Road and Mine Lick Creek Road.  The contractor is placing falsework forms and tying rebar for the box bridges at Bennett Road.  Work continues on the box culverts on Mine Lick Creek Road and a nearby ramp.  The contractor has completed placement of steel H piles for Bridges 1 & 2.  The contractor will continue to pour the abutments for Bridge 1, Phase 1 on I-40 East during this period.  All motorists are advised to observe the posted reduced speeds when entering the work zone and be alert to construction personnel, equipment and vehicles.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is October 2017.  [Charles Blalock & Sons, Inc./Sorrelle/CNP247]

Putnam County, Construction of a State Industrial Access Road (Bennett Road) serving Project Victor, including grading, drainage and paving:  This project is substantially complete and awaiting final inspection.  Lee Seminary Road is now closed to traffic at the intersection of Bennett Road.  All motorists are advised to use the detour from Lee Seminary Road to Highland Park Boulevard.  Estimated project completion is July 2016.  [Vaughn Contractors, Inc./Sorrelle/CNP195]

Van Buren County, SR-111 grading, drainage, and paving from south of Manus Road to south of SR-285 near Double Bridge Road:  Work on this project continues.  Grading and blasting operations continue and the contractor is addressing the slope with removal of unsuitable material and installing graded solid rock within the construction zone.  Motorists should expect periodic delays.  As part of the progression of the project, the contractor has implemented a new traffic control plan that has reduced the highway from three lanes to two lanes within the construction zone.  The lanes are 12 ft. wide with little to no shoulder.  Flaggers will be present during progression of work.  Motorists should use caution and be alert to construction equipment and vehicles within the work zone. The speed limit has been reduced to 45 MPH and is being enforced.  Estimated project completion date is December 2016.  [Jones Bros., Inc./Parnham & Price/CNM266]

WArren County, U.S. 70S (SR-1) resurfacing from SR-55 (LM. 10.69) to west of the bridge over the Collins River (LM 14.90) in McMinnville;  There will be no lane closures during this report period.  Estimated completion date for the project is July 2016.  [Tinsley Asphalt, LLC/Parnham/CNP161]

White County, SR-84 repair of bridge over Calfkiller River (LM 1.58):  Work on this project continues.  The contractor will continue with repairs to the parapet rail for Phase 2 during this period.  This work is expected to continue for the next two weeks.  All motorists should use caution and be alert to construction equipment and vehicles on the project.  Estimated project completion date is July 2016.  [Mid-State Construction Co., Inc./Sorrelle/CNP302]

White County, SR-135 resurfacing from SR-289 (LM 0.0) to SR-136 (LM 5.62):  Work on this project has begun.  The contractor will be performing paving operations during this time.  All motorists should use caution and be alert to personnel, construction equipment and vehicles on the project.  Estimated project completion date is September 2016.  [Rogers Group, Inc./Sorrelle/CNQ124]

REGION 2 random on-call pavement marking on various interstate and state routes:  Work on this project is expected to begin shortly after July 4, 2016.  The contractor will have short term shoulder and/or lane closures at various locations in Region 2 at nighttime or during non-peak daytime hours in order to install pavement markings.  Contract completion date is September 2016.  [Reynolds Sealing & Striping, Inc./Sorrelle/CNQ063]

REGION 2 retracing of painted pavement marking lines on various Interstate and State Routes:  Work on this project is expected to begin around August 15, 2016.  The contractor will have short term shoulder and/or lane closures at various locations in Region 2 at nighttime or during non-peak daytime hours in order to retrace painted pavement markings.  Contract completion date is September 2016.  [Reynolds Sealing & Striping, Inc./Sorrelle/CNQ065]

Region 2-on-call cable guardrail repair:  The contractor may have short term shoulder and/or lane closures in order to perform cable barrier system repair.  Work hours are 7PM-6AM.  At least one travel lane will remain open to traffic at all times.  Contract completion date is December 2016.  [R.D. Region 2-on-call sweeping and drain cleaning on various interstates and state routes:  The contractor will have short term shoulder and/or lane closures at various locations in Region 2 at nighttime or during non-peak daytime hours in order to sweep and clean drains.  Contract completion date is February 2017.  [Blevins Enterprises, Inc./Micka/CNP325]

Region 2-on-call concrete repair on various interstates and state routes:  The contractor will have short term shoulder and/or lane closures at various locations in Region 2 as necessary to perform concrete repair work.  Contract completion date is March 2017.  [Palmertree Construction Co., Inc./Voiles/CNP327]

Region 2 installation of emergency reference markers on interstates:  The contractor will have short term shoulder and/or lane closures at various locations in Region 2 in order to install emergency reference markers.  A minimum of one lane will remain open in each direction.  All lane closures will no more than 2 miles long, per closure, as per TDOT requirements.  Contract completion date is July 2016.  [Superior Traffic Control/Voiles/CNP329]

 

TDOT Operations/Maintenance Work and TDOT Bridge Inspections (TDOT Forces)

Fentress County, SR-85 (Wilder Road) slide repair and soil stabilization between log miles 2.2 and 5.7:  Work on this project continues.  The roadway will be closed until approximately August 15, 2016 to allow the contractor to use soil nailing to repair a portion of the roadway that is experiencing severe settlement and sliding.  [GSI]

Rhea County, SR-68 slide repair and soil stabilization at log mile 5.6:  Work on this project continues.  The roadway is one lane signal controlled until the project is complete.  [GSI]

Region 2-Mowing and Brush Removal: There will be possible short-term lane and shoulder closures at various locations in Region 2 in order to perform contract mowing and brush removal on an as-needed basis.  In addition to performing the work, regional Operations crews will also provide traffic control.

Region 2-Drainage Work:  There will be possible short-term lane and shoulder closures at various locations in Region 2 in order to clean rock and debris from ditches on an as-needed basis.  One lane will be maintained at all times.  In addition to performing the work, regional Operations crews will also provide traffic control.

Region 2-Pothole Repair and Pavement Patching:  There will be possible short-term emergency lane closures at various locations in Region 2 in order to repair potholes and patch pavement on an as-needed basis.  Depending on location and severity these repairs may be done during the day or at night.  In addition to performing the work, regional Operations crews will also provide traffic control.

 

Non-TDOT Work

Hamilton County, I-75 North off-ramp at Exit 9:  As part of the new FedEx development at Exit 9, the contractor will be working in the off-ramp area from I-75 North to Apison Pike.  The off-ramp has been narrowed to allow the contractor to work along the right lane and shoulder of the ramp.  Additionally, the right shoulder of Apison Pike from the exit ramp to the bridge is closed.  This traffic pattern will be in place until July 31, 2016.  [Anchor Engineering]

 

Motorists are encouraged to use caution and obey reduced speed limits in all TDOT work zones, regardless of lane closure activity.
