Police Blotter: Police Called After East Brainerd Resident Quizzes Driver Who Ventured Into Neighborhood

Police were called after a man who was apparently guarding an East Brainerd neighborhood quizzed the driver of a vehicle who veered off Gunbarrel Road.

Deonte Jackson said he went onto Tristram Road because of a road block on Gunbarrel.

He said he was confronted by a white male in a black Jeep Cherokee.

The man told him that the neighborhood had had a lot of break-ins and asked him what he was doing there.

The man followed him, so he called his father. When his father arrived, he said the man left.

Police said Karla Reynolds took $154 in items from Kohl's on Gunbarrel Road and tried to leave without paying.

It was found that she has a warrant from Franklin County, Tn., so she was taken to jail to be held for Franklin County.

Police said a handgun was found outside the Comfort Inn on Williams Street.

The man who found the gun said a black male had been standing near the location where he spotted the weapon.

A woman said she left her vehicle running while going out back to get her daughter on Waterfront Drive.

Meanwhile, another vehicle pulled up, someone got out, and drove off in her vehicle.

A man said he was coming out of Lowe's on Highway 153 when he spotted a red compact truck by his vehicle.

He said a bald black male took his weedeater and leaf blower.

He said he yelled at the man, but he took the items worth $600.

Officials of WMBW Radio said there have been so many break-ins at the station that a night security officer had to be hired.

On a recent morning, after the officer had gone off duty, someone began banging on the front door.

The station is on E. 24th Street.

Vadim Shevchuk said she met a guy on Cherokee Boulevard to sell him a cell phone for $700.

She said she could tell right away that the bills he gave her were counterfeit.

The magnetic strips were in the wrong place and the bills were coming apart.

She said he was a black male, about 17 or 18, 6' tall and 180 pounds. He was riding a bicycle.

A man said he was at the Speedway on Bonny Oaks Drive. He went inside to pay for his gas.

While he was inside, a white female got out of a blue vehicle and took his weedeater and leaf blower from his truck.

Two residents of Rockmeade Drive woke up to find problems with their vehicles.

One man said his wallet was taken from his Honda.

It contained his $450 rent money, his driver's license and a debit card. The card was quickly used at Kanku's Express.

A neighbor said his 2002 Ford Explorer was heavily damaged when a thief pried his way inside to get a new $300 Nintendo.
