Nancy Cannon Martin, 85, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 23, 2016.

Nancy was born in Chattanooga on April 28, 1931, was raised in St. Elmo and attended St. Elmo United Methodist Church.  She was a 1949 graduate of Chattanooga High School and married her high school sweetheart, Jack in December of 1952.  Jack spent two years in the Army including a tour in Korea.  Once he returned from Korea he went to work for Southern and Norfolk Southern Railroads.  Nancy worked for Capitol Airlines until Jack’s career path required many moves all over the southeastern United States.  Nancy enjoyed the challenge of each move due to the demands of Jack’s job. She was a stay at home mom, loving mother and devoted wife.  Despite many corporate moves, she was always active in each church they attended. She often taught Sunday school classes and led neighborhood bible study groups.  When Nancy and Jack returned to the Chattanooga area in 2007, they joined the Brainerd United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester C. Cannon and Catheline Slaughter Cannon.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Jack Raymond Martin; daughters, Stephania Martin Crowder (Tony) of Riverside, CA, Sally Martin Smith (Gordon) of Spring Hill, Tn.; granddaughter, Jeannette Smith Stultz (Jared) of Mascoutah, Ilinois; great-grandson, Davis Stultz also of Mascoutah, Illinois.

Visitation will be at Brainerd United Methodist Church on Thursday, July 28, at 1 p.m. and a memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. Officiating will be Reverend Terri Lowe of Brainerd United Methodist Church and Rev. Jim Giddens of Skidaway Island United Methodist Church in Savannah, Georgia.  Private burial for family members will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Brainerd United Methodist Church, 4315 Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, TN 37411 or to the St. Elmo United Methodist Church 4622 St. Elmo Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37409.

Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road, East Ridge, TN 37412.
