A 50-year-old homeless man has been arrested after a woman who lived in the same homeless camp said he tried to rape her and beat her.

George Thomas Davis is charged with attempted rape and two counts of aggravated assault.

In the incident on Saturday, the woman said the incident happened at a homeless camp at 1300 E. Main St.

She said she had recently befriended Davis after meeting him at the homeless shelter.

The woman said they were hanging out at the camp drinking alcohol when he became violent.

She said he began slapping and hitting her in the face and told her he was going to rape her.

She said she was dragged into his tent, where he tried to pull her shorts down. She said she was able to keep them on, but she said he felt the vicinity of her private area through the pants.

When he heard someone coming, he grabbed her by the arm and said she was going with him, it was stated.

She said she tried to get away from him when they were out by the road, but he put his arm around her neck and choked her.

He then let go and told her he would kill her if she called police, the report says.

The woman said Davis came up to her again a short time later at 800 McCallie Ave. She said he pulled her out of a car and began hitting her and pushing her to the ground.

When a man she was with attempted to intervene, Davis hit him in the mouth, knocking a tooth out.

A second person intervened, causing Davis to flee the scene.

After Davis was located a short distance away, he was taken to Erlanger Hospital for treatment of a laceration to his hand.

He refused to talk to police about the charges.

Davis was given bonds totaling $150,000.
