Liz Vice Headlines Nightfall Friday

Brings Neo Gospel Soul To Miller Plaza

  • Tuesday, July 26, 2016

Headliner artist Liz Vice will bring her neo gospel soul to Nightfall this week, preceded by local band Dr. B & the Ease. Nightfall is the 15-week free concert series produced by Chattanooga Presents at Miller Plaza.

Review for Liz Vice:

Think Tina Turner, but if Ike had taken a minimalist approach to production and also suddenly really got into gospel music, and now you have an inkling of the retro magic that Liz Vice produces.

A gospel, soul and R&B infused artist from Portland, Liz Vice never really considered a career as a singer. Her interest in storytelling and acting had her first working behind the scenes in the film and video world. Until in 2013, that is, when a project with Blitzen Trapper’s Eric Early began opening up some musical doors and putting her behind the mic.  Her 2015 release “Behind the Light” features dynamic, soulful vocals, with lyrics that are classically influenced enough to feel timeless and reference her deep-rooted spirituality.

According to Liz, "I like the community aspect of what music does. Dancing together, laughing, smiling together. For that moment, you get to put aside the stresses of the day. To just be and to just play. And that's my favorite part of doing music."

Review for Dr. B & the Ease:

Opening the Nightfall show at 7 p.m. is local blues rock band Dr. B. & the Ease. They are, at their core, a blues/rock band, brimming with soul and some very intelligent Funk and Jazz melodies.  Each of the four members has mastered his instrument and his voice, and they often switch roles to get the most out of each song. A new band, they made a big impression with their performance at this year’s Road to Nightfall, the local band competition leading up to the Nightfall season.

Nightfall 2016 represents a series of 15 free Friday-night concerts held at Miller Plaza in downtown Chattanooga. Each Friday through Aug. 26, Nightfall will showcase a broad spectrum of musical genres featuring a Chattanooga band at 7 p.m., followed by a headline show by a superior national artist at 8 p.m., many of whom are performing for the first time in our city.

Nightfall bulk discount beer and wine tickets are available at each show, offering a 20 percent savings on a packet of 20 drink tickets (typically $6 per individual ticket, but sold in a bulk packet for $96).  Food trucks and non-alcoholic drink concessions are also available on site. No outside food or beverages are allowed to be brought in to Nightfall.

Over the course of 28 seasons, Nightfall has grown into Chattanooga’s signature summertime program for Chattanooga and the surrounding region. Known for its family-friendly environment as well as being recognized nationally for the quality of its musical programming and locally as “Best of the Best” for Chattanooga Events, Nightfall is a family-friendly concert series with an average attendance of between 2,500-3,000 each night, said officials.
