U.S. Army Veteran Held Long Career With Kmart

Roger Dean Nicholson, 69, of East Ridge, died on Monday, July 25, 2016 at the Hospice Care Center after a short illness.

A longtime resident of Chattanooga, Roger had a 44-year career with Kmart serving as store manager at East Ridge, Signal Mountain, and retired from Fort Oglethorpe in 2014.

He was a veteran of the Army serving in Vietnam and was a life member of the American Legion Post #214.

Roger was a former board member of the East Ridge Fire Dept. Children’s Benevolence Fund and also coached ball in the East Ridge Recreation Park for a number of years.

He was a member of Frawley Road Baptist Church.

Roger was preceded in death by two brothers, Gilbert and Dennis Nicholson and two sisters, Lois Ware and Debbie Barnette.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mamie Coleman Nicholson;  two daughters, Tammy (Michael) Pangle, Trenton, GA and Stacy (Bobby) Lee, Chattanooga;  four grandsons (that he loved to watch play ball), Ryan Horne, Justin Pangle, Tanner Lee and Parker Lee;  three sisters, Alice (Bob) Griffith, Turtletown, TN, Carolyn (George) Baines, Dalton, GA and Rita Eskew, Conyers, GA; and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Tim Ottinger and Tanner Lee speaking.  A private family burial will be held at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or The Rees Skillern Cancer Institute at Memorial Hospital.
