The Moving Wall Will Be On Display This Weekend At Ross's Landing

  • Thursday, July 28, 2016

Assembly is in motion for The Moving Wall on Chattanooga's downtown waterfront near Ross's Landing.  The moving portable replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC will be on display Friday through Sunday at no cost to the public.   The Wall will be open to the public 24 hours a day; however, the official hours will be 9 a.m.-8 p.m. daily.

The exhibit will be open to the public following an opening ceremony at 11 a.m. on Friday.   The ceremony will include remarks from Linda Mines, Hamilton County historian as well as Congressman Chuck Fleischmann and Mayors Andy Berke and Jim Coppinger.

The Wall has been touring the country for over 30 years and represents a Vietnam Veteran’s tribute to his fallen comrades.  It's a half-size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.  It is 252.83 feet long and is the only replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.  It shares the complete listing of the 58,306 names of Americans killed in the Vietnam War; those killed came from all across the country.

This is a special visit by The Wall since 2016 is the 50th Anniversary of the Commemoration of the Vietnam War.   The Moving Wall will give Tennessee Valley residents and visitors a chance to experience the power of the exhibit even if they never have the opportunity to make the trip to our nation’s capital to see the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

During the visit by The Moving Wall, on Saturday, Riverfront Nights will continue the free summer music concert series with the performance of Robby Hopkins at 7 p.m., followed by headliner DeaconBluz and The Holysmoke Band at 8 p.m.
