Crash Creative has announced that they will be partnering with Walker County Schools to assist in the implementation of the technology side of Walker County’s STEM program.
“The Chattanooga area has been so good to us, and we are always looking for ways to give back,” said Brian Chaney, chief strategist of Crash Creative. “We realized that there was a foundational problem: kids are not learning real-world tech development in school. We want to do our part to change that.”
The Crash team met with Mike Afdahl, technology coordinator of Walker County Schools, to expand their partnership and work alongside the school system’s STEM program.
“This year we have added a computer science program to focus on the growing local need for programmers and professionals in tech related fields,” said Mr. Afdahl. “We want to teach our kids the skills needed for 21st century jobs and the job demand for those skills in our community. Our hope is that they enhance those skills in post-secondary opportunities and bring back those skills to our community in order to serve the growing tech sector here in Chattanooga.”
Justin Carruth, STEM co-director for Ridgeland High School, is overseeing the project’s implementation.
“What I want to accomplish through this program the ability to give our kids more opportunities, and allow them to realize the various fields that are in the real world that relate back to their education,” Mr. Carruth said.
During the two-year partnership, Crash Creative will be offering three sessions each semester both to teachers and students in Walker County on technology, programming, and career development.
Crash Creative is located in the heart of Chattanooga’s Innovation District.
