Siedlecki Says Taxes Have Gone Up For Many

  • Friday, July 29, 2016

Democratic assessor of property candidate Mark Siedleck said taxes have gone up for many county residents.

He said, "My opponent Commissioner Marty Haynes continues to lie to Hamilton County voters about our property taxes. His false claims that he hasn’t raised taxes on anyone continue to fall on deaf ears. He’s hoping you won’t listen to the facts and will be fooled into voting for him.

"Your tax bill is calculated by multiplying the assessment on your home by the certified tax rate. Haynes and his cronies have kept the rate the same but have increased assessments in recent years. That has resulted in higher bills for countless taxpayers.

"One home on the 500 Block of West Bell Avenue in North Chattanooga has seen a 41 percent increase in county property taxes since 2007. The county tax bill for another home on the 600 block of East 17th Street has increased 104 percent during the same time.

"These tax increases were due to higher assessments. There were no property improvements or new construction, just struggling property owners seeing their taxes rise while Marty Haynes claims they haven't raised property taxes on anyone. Disgraceful.

"I’m proud of my background starting businesses and creating jobs. It will guide me as I operate the Assessor of Property’s office in an efficient, fair and service-oriented manner. My opponent continues to hide behind other bureaucrats and double down on his lies. As Election Day nears and he gets more desperate, I will continue to hold him accountable and speak the truth. Please help me protect our struggling seniors and honor me with your vote."
