Special Agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have obtained an indictment for a Sparta woman, accused of embezzling money from the church for which she worked.

At the request of 13th District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway, TBI Special Agents began investigating Angela Carole Wyatt on March 10. During the course of the investigation, agents developed information that Wyatt, the secretary at First Baptist Church in Sparta, was the individual responsible for the theft of more than $30,000 in funds from the church.

Wyatt no longer works for the church.

On June 27, the White County Grand Jury returned an indictment, charging the 56-year-old woman with one count of theft over $10,000. On Tuesday, authorities booked her into the White County Jail on a $35,000 bond.
