Shawn Fairbanks was introduced on Tuesday night as the new director of both the Bradley County EMS and the Bradley County Fire Department.

County Mayor D. Gary Davis said Mr. Fairbanks will continue to head EMS and will also be over finances and personnel at the fire department.

Former Fire Chief Troy Maney, who was recently reassigned, will be over day-to-day fire operations.

He lost his certification with the state fire board over the issue of falsified certifications.

Mr. Fairbanks, who became EMS director in February after Danny Lawson retired, said he has been meeting with firefighters are the various fire halls.

He said he also wants to strengthen the volunteer fire units, saying their help is needed.

Commissioner Dan Rawls noted that the change will not be a cost factor for the county.

Mr. Fairbanks is getting a $6,000 raise, while Mr. Maney takes a $6,000 cut.
