Greg Payne Resigns as McCallie Baseball Coach

McCallie School baseball coach Greg Payne has resigned from his coaching-teaching position effective immediately.

Payne, who taught  U.S. History, World History and American Government., coached four years at McCallie and led the Blue Tornado to a TSSAA D-II state championship in 2014.

McCallie was 103-40 and a state title under Payne in four seasons.

"We will start the search for a new baseball coach/history teacher next week," said McCallie athletics director Jeff Romero.

Payne, who was the head baseball coach at Gordon Lee High School before being hired at McCallie four years ago, is a 1986 graduate of Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School in Fort Oglethorpe, Ga. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Shorter University in Rome, Ga. in 1990
