Family Funday: Canoeing & Archery at Greenway Farms August 14
Join Outdoor Chattanooga at the Greenway Farms for a Family Funday full of activity on Sunday, July 30 between the hours of 4 to 7 p.m. Choose a leisurely canoe trip on N. Chickamauga Creek, try archery at the new program Archery Range, bring a picnic, bring a bike or take a nature hike. For more information contact Outdoor Chattanooga at 423-643-6888.

Canoeing:
Outdoor Chattanooga will provide all the equipment for you to paddle the creek at your own pace.

Children under 30 lbs. should bring their own Personal Flotation Device (life jacket).Meet at the N. Chick canoe launch behind the old Sniteman Cabin. Canoes available from 4 - 7 p.m. for $25 per canoe | first come, first served. (cash or check only)

Archery: 
Aim for adventure with our new archery program. All ages will enjoy testing their aim at the bulls-eye targets placed before an arrow resistant net. This program range is located next to the dog park. Outdoor Chattanooga staff will provide the instruction, guidance, and equipment for this activity suited for all ages. Available between 4 - 7 p.m. No fee. 
 
Chickamauga Battlefield Bike Ride August 20

Join Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park and Outdoor Chattanooga for a free, leisurely paced, historical bike tour through Chickamauga Battlefield on Sat., Aug. 20 at 9:30 a.m. The ride is on moderately-hilly terrain, lasts about 2 hours, with frequent stops as the Ranger talks about the history of the battlefield.The rides are appropriate for ages 8 and older when accompanied by an adult. All participants are required to wear helmets. Bring your own bicycle or borrow a bicycle from the Outdoor Chattanooga's mobile bicycle fleet at no charge, thanks to sponsorship from Friends of the Park, Friends of Outdoor Chattanooga and the Chattanooga Bicycle Club. Reservations for the bicycles are required and only available to riders 5' or taller. Contact the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center at (706) 866-9241 for more information or to reserve a bicycle. Additional Saturday battlefield bicycle tours scheduled for 2016 occur on August 20, September 17, and October 15.

Tennessee Riverpark Extension Opening & Celebration August 12-13
The Tennessee Riverpark Extension Grand Opening is Fri., Aug. 12, with a special ribbon cutting ceremony at Blue Goose Hollow Trail Head on the Riverfront at the end of Martin Luther King Blvd. beginning at 10 a.m. This kicks off the two day celebration that will include street performers, guided bike rides with Bike Chattanooga, walking tours, and a host of other activities. The Blue Goose Landing addition to the Riverwalk extends about 3.5 miles to the base of Lookout Mountain in St. Elmo, where it connects with existing mountain trails. Lula Lake Trail Work Day August 13
Lula Lake needs volunteers for a trail work day on Sat., August 13 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. They need help completing the new Bluff Trail in time for the fall hiking season. Email Holley Roberts to RSVP and find out more. 

BRAT Price Increase August 15
 
The 27th annual Bicycle Ride Across Tennessee (BRAT) is a week long excursion (Sept. 11-17) through a different part of Tennessee each year. Registration includes beautiful campsites, plentiful food, hot showers, live entertainment and a fully supported route, which starts at Cumberland Mountain State Park in Crossville, TN. This BRAT benefits the development and protection of the Cumberland Trail, a 300-mile-long footpath down the eastern edge of the Cumberlands. Your BRAT ride is a direct contribution to the preservation of the beauty and history of this place.

2.4 Mile Open Water Swim August 27
Friends of Outdoor Chattanooga is hosting a 2.4 mile open water practice swim on the Tennessee River on August 27. This is not a race or a timed event, but rather a piloted practice swim for those interested in swimming in the Tennessee River. Swimmers will start and finish at Ross's Landing in downtown Chattanooga. Cost is $60 per swimmer and includes piloted swim, swag and lunch on the 3rd Deck Burger Bar on the Southern Belle. Proceeds benefit Friends of Outdoor Chattanooga. Kayak pilots/volunteers are also needed. For more information and to get registered click here.
