The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s soccer team got to see how they fared against an opponent, pulling out a 1-1 draw against Tennessee Tech Friday night in Cookeville in a three period scrimmage.
“Overall a solid performance,” Chattanooga head coach Gavin McKinney said. “Tennessee Tech is a quality opponent so we learned a lot about our group tonight. We are looking forward to seeing us continually improve throughout the season.”
Chattanooga got on the board first with a goal by freshman Hannah Torbett (Kingsport, Tenn.), assisted by Bailey Gale (Knoxville, Tenn.) in the 32nd minute from the right side of the box.
The Mocs outshot TTU 6-3 in the first period and were outshot over the next two frames 8-5.
The Golden Eagles drew even with a score in the 46th minute on a shot from Julia Rebollo after she picked up a rebound from a blocked shot. Nora Vicsek and Kaitie Shipley were each credited with an assist on the goal.
Freshman Melia Correa (Clarksville, Tenn.) started the game in the net and in 60 minutes made three saves while giving up the one goal. Sophomore Bailey Coppedge (Collierville, Tenn.) played the final 30 minutes and made one save. Tennessee Tech had five saves to the Mocs’ four and each team had a yellow card.
Juniors Ellie Myrick (Knoxville, Tenn.) and McKenzie Gregg (Newport, Tenn.) each had a game-high three shots with Myrick putting two on goal. Peyton McCollum (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) had two shots with the two teams each recording 11 shots.
Chattanooga returns home to host Belmont in its final scrimmage Sunday evening at 5 p.m. at Finley Stadium. Live scoring will be available at GoMocs.com and admission is FREE. Enter through the South and West Gates.
The Mocs will host Kennesaw State Friday night in the season opener at Finley Stadium. The match will kick off at 7 p.m. and the gate will open one hour prior.
