Chester Cash DeVaney, Jr. of Lookout Mountain, TN, died Saturday, August 13, 2016, at the Health Care Center at Standifer Place at the age of 87.

He was born in Crossville, TN to the late Chester Cash DeVaney and the late Anna Mary Ewing DeVaney and was the brother to the late Joyce DeVaney Shepard. He graduated from The McCallie School and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he was active in the Sigma Chi fraternity. He was in the United States Army during the Korean War where he served as a special agent and a Sergeant in the Counter Intelligence Corp. He received the National Defense Service medal and Good Conduct medal. 

After a successful career with Abbot Laboratories he founded Charter Real Estate Corporation in 1972 now known as NAI Charter. His company was responsible for several major real estate projects like Komatsu, The Honors Golf Course, and founded the Commercial Division of the Chattanooga Association of Realtors. Mr. DeVaney was past Chairman of the Industrial Committee of 100. He was awarded the highest and most respected real estate designation Society of Industrial and Office Realtors in 1982.

Mr. DeVaney was a member of Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church and was Chairman of the Board of Deacons, Elder, twice Chairman of the Session, and Elder Emeritus.  Mr. DeVaney was also founded the VIP program, taught Sunday School, was Sunday School Superintendent, Senior High Youth group Leader, and taught junior church where he created Bible Baseball.

He was a member of the Fairyland Club and enjoyed tennis for many years with his tennis group and a member of the Mountain City Club. 

 Mr. DeVaney is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anne Elizabeth Latimore DeVaney; his two children, Beth DeVaney Bradford (Michael) of New Salem and David Frazier DeVaney (Bena) of Lookout Mountain; five grandchildren Cornelia Elizabeth Bradford Jones, Mary Emmalyn Bradford, Bena Elizabeth DeVaney, David Frazier DeVaney Jr., and Stewart Davis DeVaney; and one great-grandchild, Timberlynn Latimore Jones.

The funeral will be held at noon on Thursday, Aug. 18, at the Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church. The internment for immediate family will be held beforehand at Forest Hills Cemetery.
