The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s soccer team opened the season with a 1-0 loss to Kennesaw State Friday night at Finley Stadium.
Kennesaw State opened the scoring in the 14th minute.
Ida Hepsoe sent a shot from the right side into the box and Shannon Driscoll notched the game winner for the Owls past UTC’s diving keeper.
Chattanooga had four shots, all on goal in the match with two from junior Ellie Myrick (Knoxville, Tenn.) and one each from sophomore Masey Fox (Greenback, Tenn.) and junior McKenzie Gregg (Newport, Tenn.).
The Owls outshot UTC 7-2 in the first half, but the Mocs stepped up its defensive push in the second half, allowing just two more in the frame. Kim Fincher had a game-high three shots, but all were wide and six more had one each.
Freshman keeper Melia Correa (Clarksville, Tenn.) got the start in the net and had two saves while giving up just the one goal. KSU’s keeper Catherine McDuff had four saves.
Kennesaw State’s five corner kicks all came in the first half, while the Mocs tallied all four of theirs in the second half.
