At approximately 9:52 a.m.
on Monday
, auto theft investigators with the Chattanooga Police Department were following up on a stolen vehicle investigation in the 700 block of Watts Avenue.

As the two investigators attempted to make contact with the persons at the residence, they observed a white male working on a blue SUV. The suspect got into the SUV and drove toward the investigators. As the investigator exited the driver side of his city-issued vehicle, the suspect jumped into the driver seat of the blue SUV. The driver then drove in reverse striking the investigator's vehicle.  One investigator jumped into his vehicle but was not injured.

The suspect fled and the two investigators followed.
During the pursuit, the suspect drove the wrong way on Interstate 75 (north on I-75 South). The two investigators followed the suspect in the correct lane of travel (north on I-75 North).

As the suspect continued traveling in the wrong direction on Interstate 75 South, a third officer, traveling in the correct direction on Interstate 75 South, was attempting to stop traffic at Exit 11.

At this time, the suspect continued driving toward the officer's patrol vehicle in an attempt to strike the officer head-on. The officer engaged the suspect, discharging his firearm.
The suspect then crossed the median and drove the wrong direction on Interstate 75 North (traveling south on Interstate 75 North) driving head-on toward the two initial investigators. One of the two investigators discharged his firearm.

The suspect then drove off the roadway, wrecking the vehicle. At this time another officer engaged the suspect discharging his firearm.

The suspect fled the area and is still at large.
