Madison Bailee Deal
Funeral services will be Wednesday for a 26-year-old Chattanooga woman who died last Thursday after being taken by ambulance from the Hamilton County Workhouse.
Madison Bailee Deal, of East Brainerd, was a graduate of East Ridge High School.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Edwin Charles O’Neal; uncle, Archie Lee Ledford; and cousin, Alec Newby.
She is survived by her mother, Lee Anne O’Neal Deal; father, Darrell Bruce Deal; brother, Lawson Blake Deal; grandmother, Norma Lee Peek O’Neal; aunts, Sharon O’Neal Ledford, Kelley O’Neal McLeod, Beth Deal, and Mitzi Ward; uncles, Anthony Steele McLeod, Edwin Shannon O’Neal, Doug Deal, and Mike Deal; and several cousins.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St Martin of Tours Episcopal Church with Father Jim Wallace officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 East Brainerd Road.
The Sheriff's Office first announced that District Attorney Neal Pinkston had asked for an investigation into the "in custody" death of Ms. Deal.
A friend of the family said he was told by family members that Ms. Deal had been stomped to death by a group of female inmates.
The Sheriff's Office said later that the preliminary ruling was that Ms. Deal suffered a medical problem and that physical trauma was not involved.
