Tahoe Crashes Into Police Cruiser On I-24; Causes Major Traffic Delays

  • Sunday, August 21, 2016

A traffic crash early Sunday morning in which a police cruiser was struck at 17800 I-24 Westbound resulted in heavy delays for vehicle traffic in both directions.

A marked Chattanooga Police vehicle was parked legally and unoccupied on the right shoulder of the interstate.

The officer assigned to that vehicle was conducting an investigation into another traffic crash which occurred prior to this crash.

The driver of a Chevy Tahoe lost control of their vehicle on slick roads, struck a concrete wall and continued forward striking the Chattanooga Police vehicle.

The driver of the Chevy Tahoe was immediately given aid by the officer on scene and transported via Hamilton County EMS to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The officer on scene was not injured in the incident.

Chattanooga Police ask anyone with information regarding this incident to call 423-698-2525.  The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released when available.
