Some 100 Chattanooga business leaders, sportsmen and women will be locked and loaded to support some 5,000 area youth at the 6th Annual "Young Life" Clays Shooting Classic, Thursday from 9 a.m-6 p.m. at Benton Sporting Clays in Charleston.
The event will bring both expert and novice shooters together to support Young Life Chattanooga, a Christian organization that has worked with more than 50,000 middle and high school students in four counties across the Chattanooga since 1978.
"This unique event has become a real source of fun, camaraderie and good-spirited competition," said Young Life Executive Director David Haskins.
"It's inspiring to see these rugged sportsmen, along with first-time shooters, come together in such a big-hearted way to demonstrate their concern and support for Chattanooga's young people."
The idea for a shooting benefit came from event chair and local businessman John Davis, an avid sportsman with a passion for the Young Life ministry. "Young life is reaching kids right where they are with the love of Jesus Christ in a non-threatening and fun environment," Mr. Davis said. "This event is a great investment in the future of our city's youth."
The "Young Life Clays Classic" annual event is open to all. Organizers hope to see it grow in the future.
Also on site will be “Hunters for the Hungry,” a charity program of the Tennessee Wildlife Federal where hunters donate food from their outings to local residents in need.
