Nominations Being Accepted For Walker County Citizen Of The Year

  • Monday, August 22, 2016

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2016 Walker County Citizen of the Year Award, sponsored by the Walker County Chamber of Commerce, which will be presented Saturday, Oct. 22 during the Walker County Gala at the Lookout Mountain Fairyland Club.

The Walker County Citizen of the Year Award was created to heighten public awareness and appreciation of the many people who work, often behind the scenes, to better the communitys quality of life.  While these people are not fueled by a desire for civic recognition, their efforts, whether aimed at protecting our environment, beautifying neighborhoods, increasing local opportunities for youth or raising money for various worthy projects, all demonstrate an exceptional level of citizenship.

Any citizen in Walker County is eligible for nomination, with the exception of the members of the selection committee (outlined below) along with the current chair of the Chamber (whose vote is cast in the event of a tie). The individual does not have to be a member of the Chamber or the business community.

Nominees shall:

·         Have exemplified  outstanding volunteer or philanthropic dedication to the Walker County community

·          Have served as a volunteer for a minimum of three years (not necessarily with the same volunteer organization)

·         Have signed a consent form agreeing to stand for nomination and grant the Chamber his/her permission to release the nominee’s name for publicity purposes if chosen as a finalist.

·         Have agreed to participate in events and publicity related to Citizen of the Year, including the 2016 Walker County Gala.*

More than one nomination may be submitted by an individual or organization. Please use one form per nominee. All nominations must be submitted to the Walker County Citizen of the Year Committee on or before Sept. 1 at noon.

* Registration for the Walker County Gala may be made by visiting www.walkercochamber.com/uploads/5/7/6/1/57612131/walkercountycitizenoftheyearnominationform-20151.pdf . The final four candidates for the award will be provided complimentary tickets for the event. Finalists will be notified by Sept. 15.

For more information on the event please call the Chamber at 706-375-7702.
