JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Chattanooga Lookouts broke a 3-3 tie with a five-run seventh inning on the way to a 9-3 win over the Jacksonville Suns in front of 3,154 at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville Wednesday night.
After falling to Jacksonville Tuesday, Chattanooga bounced back with a big win Wednesday. The win moved the Lookouts to just four games behind division leading Jackson. Following Thursday and Friday night's contests, the Lookouts are at home for a five-game set against Mississippi before traveling to Jackson to finish the regular season with five-games against the first-place Generals.
The Lookouts (31-27 second half, 67-61 overall) broke a scoreless tie in the third inning against Suns left-hander Matt Tomshaw. Second baseman Levi Michael hit a leadoff home run to left field. Center fielder Zack Granite reached on an error by second baseman James Roberts, stole second base, went to third base on a groundout and scored on third baseman Niko Goodrum's sacrifice fly.
Kohl Stewart improved to 8-6 with the Lookouts with another quality start. A look into the numbers and you have to wonder how. Stewart went six innings and gave up three runs on seven hits. He walked five and struck out just two. His ERA with Chattanooga is now just 3.14.
Brandon Peterson struck out two over two scoreless innings. Luke Bard worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Stuart Turner led the strong Lookouts offensive attack. He went 4-for-5 with his 22nd double, his sixth home run and two RBI.
Granite went 3-for-5. He stole two bases and now has 50 on the season. Edgar Corcino went 2-for-5. He had a bases-clearing triple in the team’s five-run seventh inning. Michael went 2-for-4 with his second homer of the year.
