Dalton State Women's Golf Ranked 7th In NAIA Preseason Poll

The Dalton State women’s golf team is ranked seventh in the NAIA Women’s Golf Coaches’ Top 25 preseason poll released Friday by the national office.

The Roadrunners, who finished sixth in last spring’s postseason recognitions, received 385 points to finish just two points below No. 6 USC Beaufort.

“It is a testament to our program and what have accomplished to start the year out ranked No. 7,” said Dalton State Coach Jim McGrew. “In the 15 polls that our program has been eligible for we have been ranked inside the top 10 in 11 of those and in the top 14 in all of them. That is something we are proud of. That being said, it is disappointing that we are not ranked in the top five like we belong. I hope our players take it as a slight and make it their goal to go out on the course and prove we are better than our ranking. Polls are nice, but ultimately it will come down to how we stay focused on becoming better golfers and reaching our full potential. We are excited about what is in front of us.”

The Roadrunners lead a group of four teams from the Southern States Athletic Conference in the preseason poll. William Carey is ranked 13th with 309 points, Coastal Georgia is 16th with 255 points, and Faulkner is 23rd at 121 points. The University of Mobile is outside of the top 25, but received 39 points.

Two-time defending national champions Keiser University (Fl.) received all 18 first place votes to tally 498 points. William Woods (Mo.) is second with 473 points. There were five Georgia schools in the ranking. In addition to Dalton State and Coastal Georgia, SCAD Savannah, SCAD Atlanta, and Thomas University made the grade.

Dalton State will have a chance to mingle with the best during their fall schedule. The Roadrunners will open the fall schedule on Sept. 6th in the SCAD Savannah Fall Invitational and will also play in USC Beaufort’s “Sand Shark Shootout” in November.
