Ready to Rock: Introduction to Rock Climbing August 7 

Join Outdoor Chattanooga for Ready to Rock: Introduction to Rock Climbing at the Walnut Wall in Coolidge Park every first and third Sunday of the month beginning Sunday, April 17 through Sunday, June 19 from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. No experience necessary and all equipment is provided. Gym shoes and longer shorts or athletic pants are recommended.

Minors must be accompanied by a parents or legal guardian to sign the assumption of risk and liability release form. Free to the public and appropriate for the family, ages 5 & up. Introduction to Mountain Biking: Skills Class August 9
 
Mountain biking is so much more than just riding your bike in the woods! Outdoor Chattanooga's Introduction to Mountain Biking Program offers formal instruction to those that are new to the sport, or who want to get more out of riding. We invite you to join one of the Skills Classes being offered on Tues., August 9 from 6-8 p.m. at Greenway Farms. You'll receive instruction and skills demonstration from our experienced mountain bike staff while practicing newly learned skills and riding techniques in a controlled setting. Appropriate for ages 10-110. Cost is $10 per person per class. Registration and payment is required in advance. Call Outdoor Chattanooga at (423) 643-6888 to register and make payment. Loaner equipment is available if needed, but is limited. *Participants must already know how to confidently ride a bike for these classes. 

Family Funday: Canoeing & Archery at Greenway Farms August 14

Join Outdoor Chattanooga at the Greenway Farms for a Family Funday full of activity on Sunday, July 30 between the hours of 4 to 7 p.m. Choose a leisurely canoe trip on N. Chickamauga Creek, try archery at the new program Archery Range, bring a picnic, bring a bike or take a nature hike. For more information contact Outdoor Chattanooga at 423-643-6888.

Canoeing:

Outdoor Chattanooga will provide all the equipment for you to paddle the creek at your own pace. Children under 30 lbs. should bring their own Personal Flotation Device (life jacket).Meet at the N. Chick canoe launch behind the old Sniteman Cabin. Canoes available from 4 - 7 p.m. for $25 per canoe | first come, first served. (cash or check only)

Archery: 

Aim for adventure with our new archery program. All ages will enjoy testing their aim at the bulls-eye targets placed before an arrow resistant net. This program range is located next to the dog park. Outdoor Chattanooga staff will provide the instruction, guidance, and equipment for this activity suited for all ages. Available between 4 - 7 p.m. No fee.

Community Events

Cherokee Heritage Festival August 6 & 7

Come out for the Cherokee Heritage Festival on Sat., August 6 and/or Sun., August 7 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. both days at Red Clay State Park. There will be dancing, singing, storytelling and Cherokee games the entire family can play. Don't miss out on an intense game of Stickball, demonstrated by the Wolftown Stickball players from Cherokee, NC. There will be a traditional blowgun tournament with cash prizes! We will have some traditional foods as well as contemporary favorites. All artisans are citizens of one of the three Cherokee Nations. This event is sponsored by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, Cherokee Nation, United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians, Tennessee State Parks and the Friends of Red Clay. Bike to the Ballgame August 7

Join Bike Chattanooga on Sunday, August 7 at 12:45 p.m. at Outdoor Chattanooga in Coolidge Park Bike to the Ballgame to cheer on the Chattanooga Lookouts at AT&T Field! Bikes will be provided by Bike Chattanooga for those that don't have their own.
 
BRAT Price Increase August 15

The 27th annual Bicycle Ride Across Tennessee (BRAT) is a week long excursion (Sept. 11-17) through a different part of Tennessee each year. Registration includes beautiful campsites, plentiful food, hot showers, live entertainment and a fully supported route, which starts at Cumberland Mountain State Park in Crossville, TN. You can view the full route here. Click here to register before the price increase on August 15! This BRAT benefits the development and protection of the Cumberland Trail, a 300-mile-long footpath down the eastern edge of the Cumberlands. Your BRAT ride is a direct contribution to the preservation of the beauty and history of this place.

2.4 Mile Open Water Swim August 27

Friends of Outdoor Chattanooga is hosting a 2.4 mile open water practice swim on the Tennessee River on August 27. This is not a race or a timed event, but rather a piloted practice swim for those interested in swimming in the Tennessee River. Swimmers will start and finish at Ross's Landing in downtown Chattanooga. Cost is $60 per swimmer and includes piloted swim, swag and lunch on the 3rd Deck Burger Bar on the Southern Belle. Proceeds benefit Friends of Outdoor Chattanooga. Kayak pilots/volunteers are also needed. For more information and to get registered click here.
