Peggy Grace Matthews, 78, of Trion, Georgia, passed away Monday, August 29, 2016 at her residence.
Mrs. Matthews was born in Oak Ridge, TN on Aug. 27, 1938, to the late Virgil Payton and Dovie Harris Payton Kirkwood. She was a member of the Mountain View Baptist Church, and was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Matthews was preceded in death by her husband, John Franklin Matthews.
Mrs. Matthews is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Maggie Matthews; daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Gary Sneed; sister, Greta Nicholson; grandchildren, Nathan Shrader, David Mattthews, Seth Matthews, Brittany Dover, Gary Sneed, Jr. and Levi Sneed; three great-grandchildren; and special friends, Linda Richardson and Ann Barksdale.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Matthews will be held Thursday, Sept. 1, at 1 p.m. in the Mountain View Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin Norton and Rev. Rickey Biddle officiating. Interment will follow in the Green Hill Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Raymond Hughes, Terry Barksdale, Tracy Barksdale, David Matthews, Nathan Shrader and Gary Sneed, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Ladies Sunday School Class of Mountain View Baptist Church, Linda Richardson, Ann Barksdale, Gay Simmons, Billie Milam and Other Earwood.
Mrs. Matthews will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Wednesday, Aug. 31 from 7-9 p.m. On Thursday, Mrs. Matthews will also be carried to the church to lie in state from noon until the funeral hour.
