Walker County has received a check for $84,337 from ACCG Insurance Programs. The funds represent Walker County’s share of a $5 million one-time special return from ACCG.
ACCG is Georgia’s county association and works on behalf of county officials and their communities by providing public policy and legislative advocacy, leadership development, civic and community engagement initiatives, insurance and retirement programs that specialize in local government needs and other cost-saving programs.
Each year, premiums are collected to pay for workers’ compensation benefits. While most injuries and benefits are quickly paid, some may be paid over the course of many years. The portion of the premium that is not immediately needed becomes investment income.
ACCG recently eliminated a fund used on behalf of the program. Because of this, the investments were sold in order to transfer the portfolio to the remaining managers that resulted in an influx of realized gains. ACCG’s Board of Trustees agreed that a portion of these gains should be returned to the participating organizations.
Walker County Commissioner Bebe Heiskell said, “We’ve enjoyed the relationship and representation of our county by ACCG. Today, we are reaping the rewards of their good stewardship of our taxpayer dollars. We’re excited to put those dollars to work right here in Walker County.”
