Trump Is Not The Responsible Leader We Need To Move America Forward

  • Thursday, August 4, 2016

I have been disappointed in Donald Trump for a long time. I didn't vote for him in the primary and won't vote for him in November. I believe he is wholly unqualified to be president. He is not the example or the type of person I want my children to see occupying the Oval Office and representing America or the Republican Party.

Trump's latest criticism of the grieving Gold Star mother of deceased Army Captain Khan, is shockingly insensitive and just the latest in a continued string of bigoted, divisive, un-presidential-like comments toward women, people from Mexico, people of the Muslim Faith, the disabled and others. Trump seems to promote and thrive on instilling fear in others. He exploits false information and uses inflamed rhetoric to make a problem appear much bigger than the reality. Instead of showing the calm, measured leadership we need and have seen in other presidents from both parties, Trump yells, screams and mocks disabled people and even kicks babies out of his rallies. He is an exporter of fear, hate and division. He wants to build walls and disengage, rather than engage to solve underlying issues and work with others to actually govern. Governing is much more than talk and catchy slogans.

I think many good people didn't realize the true character of Donald Trump when he first began running. But now, we have had plenty of opportunity to observed him and see what his true character is really all about. What we observe gets worse every single week. His childish name-calling of others and his bully attacks are other examples.

Just because someone has lots of money or runs a business, does not qualify him or her to be president. A nation is not a company. A nation is much much more than a company and even the largest corporation in the world doesn't come close to equaling the size and scope of the United States of America and its responsibilities. Companies have a completely different purpose and function than a nation does and no company could successfully exist without the structure, framework, infrastructure, laws, protection and other things a nation provides to create an environment where commerce can thrive and people can live without fear. Donald Trump actually seems disruptive to the stability we need for national success in economics and other areas.

I don't trust Donald Trump with the responsible use of our military and having access to nuclear weapons either. With recent comments reported in the news, he doesn't seem to understand that the use of nuclear weapons should only be used as a last resort when we are under major attack, like Truman did to end WWlI. Trump comes across more as a petulant dictator than a respectable leader of the free world who operates on a global scale to promote world peace and stability.

We don't need Trump to make America great again. America is already great and it can be even greater with the right kind of leadership. Donald Trump is not the type of leadership we need.  With Trump as president, we risk the diminishing of America and making it less great than it already is.

It would be nice to find a true Republican alternative to Trump, but if that's not possible at this point, the choice in November is increasingly clear.
