County School Board Member Greg Martin To Seek County Commission Post Given Up By Marty Haynes

Greg Martin announced Monday his campaign to become the next County Commissioner for District 3 in Hamilton County. The seat will become vacant when Commissioner Marty Haynes is sworn into the office of assessor of property on Sept. 1. Commissioner Haynes won the race to be assessor of property over Mark Siedlicki on Thursday..

Dr. Martin is the current representative for District 3 on the Hamilton County School Board. He is a member of the Hixson Kiwanis and serves on the board of directors for the Friends of Hixson, the North River Civic Center and the Hixson Council of the Chamber of Commerce. He was named the 2015 PTA School Board Member of the Year in the state of Tennessee.

Dr. Martin’s family in Hamilton County goes back five generations. He is the son of Dianne Killough Martin and the late John Martin, both of Hixson. He is married to Sheila Martin, who is a public school teacher. Dr. Martin, a graduate of Hixson High, and his four sons were educated in the public schools in District 3.

Dr. Martin said, "The people in Hamilton County desire and deserve a local government that is efficient with their tax dollars and focused on economic growth. I look forward to partnering with others to continue to build on the successes this county has enjoyed."

The Republican caucus will be Sept. 8 and the general election will be held on Nov. 8. If elected to the commission, he said he will resign his seat on the Hamilton County School Board.

Managing the campaign will be Mike Baskette. Frank Steil will serve as the campaign treasurer.
