UTC Football: Battle of Running Backs as Mocs Host Presbyterian Today

2 p.m. Kickoff at Finley

  • Saturday, September 10, 2016

Chattanooga will showcase senior running back and All-American candidate Derrick Craine and Presbyterian will have junior and Chattanooga native Darrell Bridges carrying the ball as the two 1,000 yard rushers from 2015 will battle for offensive supremacy today at 2 p.m. at Finley Stadium.

The Mocs look to improve to 2-0, while Presbyterian (0-1) seeks its first win of the season after falling to Central Michigan, 49-3 last week.

UTC is coming off a 66-0 win over Shorter in the season opener.  Chattanooga allowed just 16 yards of offense against the Hawks, while putting up the most points in a game since 2001.

Craine is 42 yards shy of 2,000 rushing yards in his career ... his 20 rushing TDs are tied for fifth all-time at UTC.

Bridges, an all-state running back from Ridgeland HS in 2012l, was first team All-Big South in 2015.  He rushed for 1,065 yards, becoming the first player in PC's Division I history to rush for 1,000 yards in a single season.

UTC-Presbyterian Series:
• This is the eighth meeting in the series that began in 1930 ... UTC leads 5-2 and is 2-1 in Chattanooga.
• The first five games were played before 1963.
• UTC renewed the series in 2009 with a 29-13 win in Clinton.  That was the first road win for head coach Russ Huesman.
• This is the first game in Chattanooga in the series since Nov. 4, 1961 ... a 10-9 win for the Blue Hose.
