The Chattanooga Mocs women’s golf team is tied for ninth after 36 holes at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate. The ladies shot 295 in the morning round and came back with a 289 in the afternoon at Cherokee Country Club. They’re tied for ninth with Wake Forest.
Megan Woods’ even-par day leads the Mocs tied for seventh. Maria Pineiro, playing as an individual, is +2, tied for 19th. Monica San Juan and Holly Morgan are +5, while Cristina Perez is one back at +6. Maddy McDanel shot 159.
Woods got the day started well with a 1-under 70.
She opened and closed her card with birdies surrounding 15 pars and a bogey. Pineiro got her collegiate career off to a great start with a 2-under 69 with an unblemished card of two birdies and 16 pars. San Juan (72), Perez (76) and Morgan (77) rounded out the team score.
The afternoon belonged to another freshman. Morgan paced the squad with a 70 (-1). She came through in the clutch with birdies on her final two holes to slice the team score to +5. Woods and Perez added 72s (+1) with San Juan’s 75 as the other counter.
The Mocs and Demon Deacons are three shots behind North Carolina in eighth and one ahead of Ole Miss in 10th. Illinois (563) leads Kent State (569) by six shots. Florida (570) is another stroke back in third. The Golden Flashes Pimnipa Panthong is the leader at -6 (135).
