Lee Men Lead Montevallo Full Moon Invitational

  • Monday, September 12, 2016
Impressive was the name of the game as the Lee men's golf team opened the 2016 fall season on Monday. The Flames will take a five-stroke lead into the final 18 holes of the Montevallo Full Moon Invitational on Tuesday.
Senior Shea Sylvester paved the way with a 6-under par 65 on the 6,745 yard course.

Sylvester holds a one-stroke advantage over North Georgia's Matt Elliott, who finished with a 66. Lee's Matt Johnson and Corey Sheppard are tied for seventh after 1-under 70s. Freshman Dylan Lillard is deadlocked for 11th after his even-par round of 71. Adam Wright rounded out Lee's scorers with a 74.

The Flames finished the afternoon with a minus-8 (276). Spring Hill College is second (281). Young Harris is third (283), followed by host Montevallo (288). North Georgia (290) rounds out the top five in the nine-team event.

"I was impressed with everyone's demeanor as soon as we showed up at the course this morning," said assistant coach Hunter Vest. "I believe this helped us get off to the solid start we needed. Shea got off to a hot start with birdies on three of the first six holes and kept it going in posting a 65.

"Everyone showed great patience and stayed solid for the entire day.  I'm very proud of the way we battled for each and every shot down to the final hole," Vest added.  "If we can maintain good focus/patience going into tomorrow's round, I believe we should put ourselves in great position."
