Ovarian cancer is often called the "silent killer” because many times there are no symptoms until the disease has progressed to an advanced stage. One-third of American women will get some form of cancer in their lifetime and approximately one and one-half percent of those cases will be ovarian cancer. Ranking fifth in cancer deaths among women, ovarian cancer accounts for more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system.
The American Cancer Society 2016 estimates for ovarian cancer in the United States are:
About 22,280 women will receive a new diagnosis of ovarian cancer.
About 14,240 women will die from ovarian cancer.
Since 2012, the Karen Collins “Un-Teal” There is a Cure Foundation has raised and donated more than $180,000 to life-saving research programs, thanks to the generosity of sponsors, donors, event participants and volunteers.
The foundation was established in 2012 to provide hope through ovarian cancer research.
