Boomers, Shakers and Beyond invites area residents who are 50+ to the kickoff event for the group. The featured speaker will be Charles W. Maynard, a United Methodist Church minister, storyteller, author and a native of Chattanooga. Rev. Maynard is known for telling traditional Appalachian mountain tales, stories of American history and national parks, and personal narratives of growing up in the mountains.
Charles W. Maynard has authored or co-authored 30 books, including 21 children’s books. He has also written numerous magazine articles. He tells in schools, churches, and festivals. For his writing in, The Blue Ridge—Ancient and Majestic, Charles received the Reed Environmental Writing Award from the Southern Environmental Law Center. Charles worked as the first executive director of Friends of Great Smoky Mountains National Park and as director of advancement at the International Storytelling Center in Jonesborough, Tenn. Charles married his high school sweetheart, Janice, who is a well-known novelist.
Boomers, Shakers, and Beyond is a community enrichment program designed for adults 50 + focusing on mind, body, and spirit. The program is designed for learning new things, enhancing old skills, exchanging thoughts on numerous topics, meeting new people, participating in community service projects, and in general having a great time!
