Jackson, Tenn. - The Generals had an early lead and put two men on in the ninth, but ultimately dropped a tight contest to Chattanooga Thursday night,3-2, at The Ballpark at Jackson.
The Lookouts trail Montgomery by three games and any combination of two wins by Montgomery or two losses by Chattanooga will end the Lookouts 2016 season.
After the Lookouts grabbed a quick 2-0 lead in the first,tied the game in the second. The Lookouts had five-straight hits with two outs, getting an RBI single from T.J. White and a run-scoring double from Zach Granite to make it 2-2.
Chattanooga finally broke through against the Generals in the seventh. Granite led off with a single before swiping second for his 54th steal of the season. Engelb Vielma sacrificed him to third base before Travis Harrison got him home with a groundout to make it 3-2.
Stephen Gonsalves went just three innings and threw 79 pitches for Chattanooga, but the Generals failed to score against a trio of relievers. Todd Van Steensel (1-0, 2.25) pitched three scoreless frames to pick up the win and Randy Rosario threw two shutout frames behind him.
The Generals nearly tied the game in the ninth against Raul Fernandez. Fernandez walked a couple but managed to do enough to keep the Generals off the board and pick up the save.
The Lookouts tallied nine hits on the night, two each from Zach Granite (2-for-5) and Stuart Turner (2-for-3).

Zach Granite stole his 54th base of the season Tuesday which moved the speedster into sole possession of 4th in the Lookouts single season record book. He passed with Dwight Taylor (1982) and Wally Dashiell (1929) for fifth last weekend and now edged by Dee Gordon for fourth (53, 2010).
The Lookouts will have three players from the 2016 representing them in the Arizona Fall League as C Mitch Garver, LHP Mason Melotakis and RHP Randy Rosario were all selected to play in the fall.
