Mocs Football Ranked No. 3, Tie Highest Ranking In School History

  • Tuesday, September 20, 2016

The Chattanooga Mocs moved up to No. 3 in the Football Championship Subdivision Coaches Poll released today.  That equals the highest ranking in school history.

The Mocs are coming off a 21-14 win at Furman and own a 3-0 record.  UTC is also No. 5 in the STATS FCS Top 25, the only other ranking officially recognized by the NCAA.

This is the 13th consecutive week Chattanooga is ranked in the top 10.  UTC has been ranked in the top 25 for 37 consecutive weeks, dating back to Nov.
4, 2013.

UTC has been among the top 25 for 40 weeks in the Russ Huesman era (since 2009).  The Mocs are 26-15 when ranked under Huesman.

Chattanooga was also in the top 10 in the national small college rankings in the 1960s, reaching as high as No. 3 on Nov. 1, 1968.  This was before making the move to NCAA Division I in 1977 and prior to the FCS rankings that began in 1982.

The Mocs are also No. 87 in the Sagarin ratings that were released today.  This number includes all NCAA Division I programs and puts the Mocs in front of 42 FBS schools, including Virginia, Rutgers, Purdue, Iowa State and Kansas from the Power 5 conferences.

UTC is off to its first 3-0 start since the 1991 season.  The Mocs host Samford on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. (E.D.T.)
