MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Thanks to a record setting fourth set marathon victory Christian Brothers knocked of the Lee volleyball team, 3-1
on Tuesday evening.
The two clubs set a Gulf South Conference record for the highest score in the fourth and final set as the Lady Bucs held off the Lady Flames, 36-34. CBU's Emma Lenior recorded her 24th kill of the match to put the home team up 35-34. An attack error by Lee would finally end the set and the match in favor of the Lady Bucs.
Silva Sartori finished with 13 kills and seven digs for the Lady Flames.
Crystal Dedes added 10 slams and Brooke Wilsman followed with nine kills and 12 digs. Catherine Conley had eight slams and a pair of blocks followed by Blaire Beamer who rotated in for seven kills.
Sadie Johnson and Kristi Farley teamed for 45 assists. Johnson recorded 25 while Farley pitched in 20 of her own. MaKayla Beebe roamed the back line with 20 digs.
Mary Kathern Miller tallied 11 kills on a sizzling .435 hitting percentage for the Lady Bucs. Brinsely Cooper had 12 slams on a .417 hitting percentage. As a team Christian Brothers hit a .281 clip. Jessica Reber was active all over the court with 53 assists, six kills and 12 digs.
Christian Brothers jumped out to the early lead with a 25-22 first set victory. Lee responded with a 25-23 win in set two before the Lady Bucs claimed a 25-21 advantage in the all-important third set. The victory moves the upstart Memphis club to 7-2 overall and 3-1 in league play.
The Lady Flames have grown accustomed to long grueling sets in the GSC thus far.
On Friday, Alabama Huntsville clipped Lee, 32-30 in the first set while
on Saturday the Lady Flames dueled for five sets with North Alabama.
Lee (3-5, 0-3) will look to end a three-match skid
on Friday as they travel down to Pensacola to battle West Florida at
6p.m.. The Lady Flames road trip continues with Valdosta State
on Saturday at
1 p.m.
