Sarah Louise Heard Sims, 93, died on September 20, 2016.

Ms. Sims is survived by her husband of 65 years, Marlin Sims of Soddy Daisy. Ms. Sims leaves behind three children, Tommy Marlin Sims of Mt. Juliet, TN; Cynthia Sims Garcia and Charlie Bates (Pamela) Sims of Dayton; and four grandchildren, Arielle Garcia Hayes (Michael), Joseph Garcia, Nicole Sims and Matthew Sims. She is survived by one sister, Charlene Johnson of Dunlap, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ms. Sims was originally from Sequatchie County, Tn. She was a direct descendant of the first non-indigenous child born in Sequatchie Valley and a long line of educators and county leaders which include Sequatchie County Judge Houston Heard and Professor Freiley, a former Sequatchie County Superintendent of Schools. Ms. Sims succeeded her father, Creed Bates Heard, as Sequatchie County Court Clerk and remained in that position until going to work at the Volunteer Army Ammunition Plant from where she retired. Ms. Sims also worked at the Oak Ridge plant during the development of the atomic bomb. 

Visitation will be held at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home in Soddy Daisy, from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22, and the memorial service will be held in the chapel at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23. Graveside internment will be at Millsaps Cemetery on Hotwater Road, Mowbray Mountain following the memorial service.
