Jimmy Templeton is shown with City Councilman Ken Smith and Public Works Administrator Justin Holland
For the first time in 86 years, there is no Templeton at the city public works yards.
Jimmy Templeton, who put in half a century with public works, was honored by the City Council on Tuesday on his retirement.
A host of public works employees were present to pay tribute to the popular Templeton. They gave him a standing ovation.
Also present were his former employee Tony Boyd, retired county highway department chief Harold Austin, and Mr. Templeton's wife, Diane, and daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter.
His grandfather, L.H. Templeton, joined the city in 1930 and became public works director. He retired after 32 years.
His father, James Templeton, put in 37 and a half years and was also over public works. He retired Jan. 1, 1976.
Jimmy Templeton said he expects "to be spending a lot of time with my family."
