Lee University goalkeeper Daniel Hrenko was named the Gulf South Conference Men's Soccer Defender of the Week on Tuesday.
Hrenko allowed just one goal over two Flames' victories last week, including a shutout against North Georgia. The freshman from Tampa, Fla. allowed just one goal on the week and made a total of 11 saves. He now stands at a perfect 4-0 with 16 saves in 2016.
Hrenko kept a clean sheet and registered four saves in Lee's 1-0 home win over the Nighthawks on Thursday.
On Saturday he tallied five saves as Lee earned a hard-fought 2-1 overtime victory at Cedarville (Ohio).
"For a freshman he plays with a lot of maturity and has a lot of confidence," noted head coach Paul Furey when asked about his goalkeeper after Thursday's match. "He has stepped in and done a really nice job for us over the last few matches and he really earned the shutout."
Hrenko and The Flames sit at 5-3 after winning four straight matches to close out the non-conference portion of the schedule. Lee will open up GSC play with a trip to Christian Brothers on Friday and Union on Sunday.
