Senator Corker's Laments

  • Thursday, September 29, 2016

I hope Senator Corker has kept a list of all of his solutions to imminent problems/actions he foresaw during the past several years but to no avail.  Most of them have fallen too often with much fanfare by Harry Reid with nervous silence of his followers who are too accustomed to what follows to go the other way.  I am anxious for the day when the Senate can open without a lecture or a promise that life on Earth ends at midnight because of the Republicans.

My list began with Senator Corker's initial proposals for actions to stop illegal immigration across our southern border which had near unanimous approval in the Senate and House a few years ago.  From there it died because of failure of that body to do its due diligence, finish it, and push it through, presumably knowing that veto awaited it at the White House.  Instead, what we have are hundreds of thousands of people who do not belong in this country and no one knows who, what, or where they are.  But this "failed presidency" has seen to it that they are covered by issuing one of his famous executive orders welcoming them as step-children of the taxpayers.

That is the same failed presidency that has sat silent and secure while his last two secretaries of state have plunged this country into political chaos with our once never-fail friends around the world and a continuation and expansion of wars already fought to foster and energize enemies greater than those we had already defeated.  But his silence was well spent as he traveled every significant land mass on the globe boasting about all he has accomplished during his tenure as leader of the free world.  I know what leaders of this once free world look and act like by witnessing them and their use of wisdom, power and partnerships during the last 75 years.  And I did not learn that by way of their broadcasts from foreign countries.

Senator Corker has always been a proponent of chipping away at our national debt, and lordy how he has tried.  How many times have we heard this past week from both political parties that spending time on eliminating the debt will not help the taxpayers.  I learned early on when I was hired after college for my first job at an annual salary of $2,860/year that it would be wise to begin with the first paycheck having $15 deducted and deposited in the credit union (along with the $15 I handed to my parents for the opportunity to continuing living at home.)  I followed that course and even increased that amount as the years passed and have never been in debt.  Truth is a good thing, but is very hard to find, as we have learned quite recently among politicians past and present.  Do not let that fact be clouded by all the smoke and mirrors delivered to us in living color each time we turn on the television.  Debt without a balance in income and/or acquisition of assets can be a destructive force in stability and progress, even leading to the failure or decline of a superpower.

Keep chipping away with your wisdom, experience, and success as a businessman, Senator Corker.  You will get my support and you know I am not bashful.
