ESPN College Gameday Zooms Into Bristol Motor Speedway For Battle At Bristol

ESPN officials announced today that college football’s longest-running and most-celebrated pregame show, ESPN College GameDay Built by The Home Depot, will originate from a NASCAR facility for the first time in history when the show airs live from Bristol Motor Speedway (BMS) on Saturday, Sept. 10 (9 a.m.-Noon, ET) in advance of the Pilot Flying J Battle at Bristol, featuring Virginia Tech vs. the University of Tennessee. 

Hosted by Rece Davis, who is joined by analysts Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard and David Pollack, ESPN College GameDay will be located at the Earhart East Parking Lot next to the “The Last Great Colosseum.” During the last 19 days the facility has been transformed from a world-class racetrack into a state-of-the-art football stadium.

ESPN made the announcement today at historic Lambeau Field in Wisconsin when a special Pilot Flying J Battle at Bristol-designed NASCAR stock car arrived on the set with Bristol Motor Speedway Executive Vice President and General Manager Jerry Caldwell.

Bristol, Tenn. is the 75th different city to host ESPN College GameDay, a winner of six Emmy awards.

ESPN College GameDay is a free event. Fans do not need a ticket to the Pilot Flying J Battle at Bristol in order to attend ESPN College GameDay. If traveling through Bristol Motor Speedway property to and from the ESPN College GameDay set, your game ticket will be required upon entering and exiting the perimeter security check point.

Please note that Bristol Motor Speedway shuttles do not operate from these locations.

  • Fans entering the pit will be checked by a security wand

  • No bags, backpacks or purses permitted in the pit

  • No offensive, vulgar, inappropriate or solicitation signage will be allowed (i.e., no political, religious, or .com, .org, .net signage)

  • No signs on a stick

  • No pens, pencils, markers or dry erase boards

  • No food or drinks

  • Throwing of objects is prohibited

GameDay Fun Facts

  • It is the 10th time the show will originate from the state of Tennessee – eight of the previous nine times were from Knoxville and the other was in Nashville

  • The last time the show aired in the state of Tennessee was Sept. 15, 2012, for the Tennessee-Florida game (37-20 Florida win)

  • It is the first time since Sept. 5, 2009 that Virginia Tech has been involved in the game from which GameDay will originate
