Wayne-O-Rama Chattanooga Issues Call For Volunteers

  • Friday, September 30, 2016

Wayne-O-Rama Chattanooga has issued a call for volunteers.  Bob Stagner, co-founder of the Shaking Ray Levi Society and project manager of the year-long installation, said “These last few weeks have been fabulous. We’ve had tons of volunteers working with Wayne to tell a fascinating part of American history and we are primed for a busy year.”

Produced by the Shaking Ray Levi Society, a 30 year-old organization dedicated to arts and education, Wayne-O-Rama will be engaging Chattanoogans of all kinds.  Students, teachers, artists and Chattanoogans of all ages will enjoy a “playhouse of fun,” according to 4-time Emmy Award-winning artist Wayne White.

Glass House LIVE, an all-day festival celebrating the revitalization of the community, kicked off with a puppet parade featuring giant puppets of Civil War generals Cleburne and Sherman. Volunteers have been working with Mr. White, capturing the likenesses of the generals amid the bustle of artists and the hum of power tools. Lookout Mountain was rising on wooden spines as media notable Alison Lebovitz of WTCI-TV’s program, “The A List” arrived to interview Mr. White for the final episode of the show’s eighth season.  The season began Sept. 22 and this season's finale episode will air in November.

Volunteers will be recruited throughout the year as the interactive installations are created, including Lookout Mountain, Bessie Smith, Bob Brandy, Chief Dragging Canoe and other notable Chattanooga people and places. Upcoming events include the puppet parade at MAINX24, puppet workshops, open house and volunteers will be recruited throughout the year.

"Please visit us on Facebook at Wayne-O-Rama Chattanooga to stay in touch with events and sign up to volunteer at www.wayne-o-rama.com or by email at wayneoramacha@gmail.com," officials said.
