Several reluctant witnesses testified Tuesday after the July 29 slaying of Jeremy "Blue" Clark at JJ's Lounge on Glass Street.

It was enough to have cases of criminal homicide, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony bound to the Grand Jury by General Sessions Court Judge Clarence Shattuck against Adrian Nixon.

Nixon, 29, remains held on $250,000 bond.

The 28-year-old Clark was the brother of recent state House candidate Dennis Clark, who was among family and friends at the hearing.

Patrick Brown, who is a cousin of Nixon, told of being so close to the shooting that he was grazed by one of the bullets.

Witnesses said some five shots rang out, leaving the victim with multiple gunshot wounds to the body and head.

Brown said Nixon, who was driving a white Dodge Challenger, stopped to talk to him. Then he said Clark walked up. He said he did not see a weapon on Nixon.

But he said as he started to walk away the shots were fired. He said he ran to the street and was picked up by a friend. He would not give the friend's name to prosecutor Cameron Williams.

Brown said he and the friend went with Nixon the next day to give statements to police.

Detective Taylor Walker said Nixon admitted being at the scene, but denied carrying out the shooting. He said someone came up from the other side of his car and shot through the passenger window.

Another witness, Jeffery Lindsey, admitted he was testifying because the prosecutor agreed not to revoke his bond after he picked up new charges of selling drugs.

He said that night at the lounge that a white car pulled up and circled around the lounge. He said he then heard the gunshots and saw the victim fall backwards.

Lindsey, who said he called 911, said he did not see anyone on the passenger side of the car, but he said that did not mean they were not there.

A couple who were just getting out of their car when the shooting started also testified. The man said he tried to keep the victim alive until help could arrive.

He told of seeing a white car leave and seeing the victim fall. He said police officers told him to move away from the wounded man.

Nixon is represented by attorney Bill Speek.
