AEGIS Law Enforcement Foundation And Local Hamilton County Law Enforcement Agencies Host Grand Opening Of Use Of Force Simulator

  • Wednesday, September 7, 2016
Members of the community, reporters, and generous donors gathered on Wednesday to celebrate the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony of the new Hamilton County Law Enforcement Use of Force Simulator donated by the AEGIS Law Enforcement Foundation. The funding of the new, $70,000 state-of-the-art use of force simulator was made possible by generous community
businesses and private donors.

This new training tool will be available for all Hamilton County law enforcement agencies to utilize and will help reduce training costs by eliminating the need to send officers out of state or to other private simulators for training.

The Training Lab Use of Force Simulator will provide digital scenario based situations where officers are required to act and engage suspects and/or diffuse situations that represent real life challenges they may incur while performing their daily duties.
Each scenario can be changed as it unfolds with multiple outcomes such as a suspect following commands, pulling a weapon, or trying to engage the officer.

This new system will allow officers to train with various types of use of force tools such as firearms (rifle, shotgun, and pistol), taser, baton, and pepper/OC spray. The model purchased has over 500 active scenarios covering a variety of training situations including domestic disturbances, bank robberies, active shooter situations, and many more.

The simulator utilizes real department firearms that have been converted to house internal laser units with CO2 activated actions in order to simulate recoil. The firearms used in the simulator will not fire live rounds once the internal laser and CO2 components have been installed.

The unit is comprised of a large screen, projecting device, and an internal computer with components. Once a scenario begins the system will be zeroed and the operator will run a series of diagnostics to set the system to each shooter.

Wednesday’s ribbon cutting ceremony was led by AEGIS Law Enforcement Foundation Executive Director, Tom Edd Wilson, and featured remarks from Red Bank Police Chief, Tim Christol. Each law enforcement agency within Hamilton County was represented.

The HCSO would like to thank all the businesses and private donors who generously gave to make this new, state-of-the-art use of force simulator possible.
