Vehicle Leads Police On 3-County Chase; Male Passenger From Fleeing Vehicle Shot By Landfill Contract Worker

  • Friday, September 9, 2016

A vehicle led police on a three-county chase on Thursday afternoon. A man who was a passenger in the fleeing vehicle was later found dead. Authorities said he was shot by a landfill contract worker as he approached him.

The Meigs County Sheriff's Office was in pursuit of a vehicle when it crossed into Hamilton County. At that time, HCSO deputies assisted with the pursuit and eventually the vehicle headed into Bradley County.

Due to the increasingly dangerous pursuit, deputies intervened and stopped the vehicle. The vehicle was stopped by a Hamilton County Sheriff's Office deputy and damage occurred to the patrol unit. However, the deputy did not sustain any serious injuries.

Two suspects were in the vehicle. One person was arrested, Daniel Warren, 32. The other suspect, Jeremy L. Headley, 24, fled on foot once the vehicle came to stop. He was the one who was fatally shot at the landfill.

Warren has been charged with felony reckless endangerment by the HCSO and also has outstanding charges in Meigs and possibly Bradley County as well. Warren also has a warrant for desertion from the armed forces.

Authorities later said a call was received by the Cleveland/Bradley County 911 Communications Center at 4:48 p.m. regarding a shooting that had taken place at Santek/Waste Facilities. Once patrol deputies arrived on the scene, a deceased male was located on the property.

The Sheriff's Office said the victim was a passenger in the vehicle that fled from Meigs and Hamilton County authorities earlier in the day.

General Steve Crump with the 10th Judicial District Attorney's Office has contacted the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to independently investigate the incident.
